Shinki Hikaku is an internationally known Japanese leather tannery that is famous for its craftsmanship and attention to detail. Shell cordovan is an quine skin made from the flat fibrous muscle under the skin of the horse rump (also called breech). The leather takes it name from the city of Cordoba (in Spain) where it was first produced by the Visigoths in the 7th century.
It is one of the most difficult and expensive leather to make and only highly trained artisans in the tradition can bring the beauty of cordovan shells to life.
